After only four months of jammin' with John, I was playing real stuff and booked an aspiring musician character in a romantic comedy where I actually played and sang an original song.

In our clinic at the Universal City Medical Group we specialize in treating musicians. I am truly impressed with the Green Monster Music instructional DVD series. As a doctor who routinely takes care of musicians with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I was very happy that John covers not only proper technique but also proper posture while playing. This will set you up for many years of pain free music. I wholeheartedly endorse this DVD series ...it is by far the best and most fun product on the market.
Enjoy and happy playing (hopefully like a monster in no time!)

The Monster Guitar Method videos have been incredibly helpful. After months of using other instructional methods, I happened upon these videos and have since made terrific progress. Monster's videos, along with their step by step instructional materials, are the perfect tool for beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of guitar.

I studied with John for about 6 years, and now I'm playing with my rock group at venues like the El Rey Theatre, The Roxy, The Knitting Factory, and many more. His broad knowledge of musical styles and music theory gave me all the tools I needed to feel comfortable with performing and improvising on-stage. I recommend him to anyone who wants to learn the guitar the right way.

The world needs more people like John. From sitting down with him for the first lesson I could tell that he was tapped into exactly what he should be doing. Not only an insanely creative guitarist, John is equally an amazingly creative teacher. He has developed a system for understanding guitar that opens your mind to possibilities you didn't even know exsisted and then places those possibilites within your reach (just practice, practice, practice

I have been playing guitar for 5 years, but when it came to songwriting as a hobby I felt that I had hit a plateau. My songs were too similar, and I was wearing out a few chord progressions. After just 2 months with John, there is no more song-writer's block. My arsenal of sounds has increased exponentially, and best of all I understand the theory behind it so I can build off of the lessons. John instantly takes you in the direction you want to go and opens a new world of music that keeps you excited and motivated to learn more. This is not a linear teaching method, instead it is an interactive, customized and tailored instruction. If you aren't fortunate enough to live in the Los Angeles area, then do yourself a favor and buy the DVDs - they are a start to finish comprehensive companion to any aspiring guitar player.

John Doyle has given me the tools to transform music theory into practical application. Under his instruction my playing has broken from rigid forms and is progressing toward a fluid understanding of the entire fret-board, a landmark in any musician's playing.
John's knowledge is vast, and coupled with his methodical approach evident in both his DVD series and personal instruction, he can elevate any player's abilities.
Whether your goals are to play the songs on the radio or those in your head, John's teaching, patience, and ability to quickly ascertain a player's skill level, will make any guitarist meet or exceed their potential.

(John is) one of the most talented and amazing teachers I have ever had the pleasure of being taught by. I learned more in 4 lessons (with John) than I did from my (previous) teacher in the 8 years she has been teaching me... (John is) the best teacher EVERR!!! ... there's no other word to describe him, but...ahhhmazing!

John Maurice Doyle came highly recommended to me by my bandmate. My bandmate, a skilled musician himself, suggested I take his course based on the noticable improvement of his friend, who took guitar with Green Monster Music. My bandmate said his previously floundering friend had made marked improvment within a short space of time because of the videos and lessons he was taking. So I signed on and have found it the missing link to my musical endeavors.
I have played guitar and sung and written songs for many years, but all without knowing what notes I was playing or a thing about the music theory behind what I was doing. As a result I couldn't communicate with my bandmates, and was limited to feeling-based impulses when writing, instead of having the proper tools of limitless creation.
I love being able to refer to chord harmony theory when I am stuck writing a chorus, and being able to use the correct language when talking with my bandmates.
I can recommend john maurice doyle with enthusiasm from personal experience. My favorite thing about him is his patience. Followed closely by his clarity. He's also fun, and keeps it light. He would be my recommendation for anyone looking to learn music or further their knowledge in playing.

My son Alex has been taking lessons from John for about three years. John’s style of teaching builds our son’s confidence and inspires him. John sparks a passion for music in the student, which really drives him to practice. Our son is not only diligent about mastering the lessons given but he is also motivated and hungry to research and learn about other musicians, techniques and equipment. John encourages this along with the weekly lesson he incorporates those ideas and curiosities the student brings into the session.
One of the greatest benefits of John’s style of teaching is how this has positively translated into Alex’s school performance. It helped in his time management, research skills and to be his own advocate to seek out and learn more about his areas of interest.
